Exciting Update: Customizable Noise Cancellation Now Available for AirPods Pro

0

Great news for AirPods Pro 2 users – a much-desired feature will soon be among your arsenal. We're not talking about the 5 new AirPods features announced at Apple's WWDC 2024 event, but something set to take the Adaptive Audio mode to a whole new level. With credit to 9to5Mac , this innovative feature outdoes even the top-rated noise-cancelling earbuds in the market. It offers exceptional control over the amount of external noise allowed in and provides intuitive, smart control.

The Power of Adaptive Audio Mode

The magic behind the Adaptive Audio mode lies in the fusion of active noise cancellation and Transparency mode. The former is designed to actively block unwanted environmental sound, while the latter filters in ambient noise to keep you tuned with your surroundings. The Adaptive Audio mode works intelligently – it aims to minimize unnecessary background noise while allowing essential sounds like human voices or street noise to filter in. As of now, you can either switch the Adaptive Audio mode on or off, but that is set to change with iOS 18.

Introducing iOS 18

The latest beta of the AirPods firmware reveals two intriguing Adaptive Audio settings – “remove more noise” and “remove less noise”. These settings facilitate a balanced noise control that harmonizes well with your surroundings. For instance, in an office environment, you can opt for ‘remove more noise' to ensure you get disrupted only when directly addressed. Conversely, at home, using the ‘remove less noise' setting would allow you to stay in sync with household activities while cutting out unnecessary distractions. While more personalized settings were desirable, Apple's focus on user-friendly simplicity resulted in the current three-option model.

The disappointment lies in the fact that these new features are exclusive to AirPods Pro 2 owners only. The key attributes like voice isolation for enhanced call clarity and head gesture detection require the Pro's H2 chip.

A Broader Perspective

All AirPods users, however, have something to look forward to. Features like personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking for an immersive gaming experience will be accessible to a wide range of models including the AirPods (3rd gen), AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max. There's even a promise of offering “the best wireless audio latency Apple has ever delivered for mobile gaming” and improved voice quality during gaming sessions. Unfortunately, we have to wait till September for the release of iOS 18, speculated to be announced alongside the iPhone 16 launch
