Despite the name, the new tier seems far from rudimentary – it bears a strong resemblance to Spotify Premium sans audiobooks. Users can enjoy their favorite tunes without interruptions from ads, ability to download and organize their music, and shared listening features.
What's more interesting is that it comes with Individual, Duo, and Family plans. In exchange for an audiobook-free experience, users saw a reduced price by £1 for individuals and £2 for family users, effectively rolling back the recent Spotify price rise.
The Disappearance of Spotify Basic
However, just as swiftly as the new plans popped up under Profile > Account > Subscription > Available Plans, they vanished without a trace. Neither the UK website nor the international versions seem to hold any references to this intriguing Basic plan.
A plausible explanation is that Spotify may have inadvertently made the plan public sooner than intended. Once spotted, the music streaming giant may have decided to pull it offline. The temporary appearance, however, hints that Spotify Basic's official launch is imminent, and not restricted to the UK alone. It is anticipated to cause a significant stir if it doesn't become accessible in the US.
Although a monthly savings of £1 may not seem substantial, it is predicted that many Spotify Premium subscribers will welcome the opportunity to revert to old prices and forego the audiobooks. It could soon become a widely popular choice, aligning Spotify more closely with other top music streaming services in terms of price and attributes… high-resolution audio being an exception, of course.
