Boost Your Audio Experience: Fyne’s SuperTrax Super Tweeter Transforms Ordinary Speakers into Exceptional Sound Systems

The UK-based firm Fyne Audio, which stood out at this year's High End Show in Munich, has unveiled the SuperTrax super tweeter, a product so distinct that it merits its very own spotlight. Fyne Audio teased this hoped-for tweeter at the Bristol HiFi Show, and now, its release to the public is accompanied by the SuperTrax SC1 cable, a necessary accessory for connecting it with traditional speakers.

The SuperTrax tweeter is as unique as they come, bearing little resemblance to your standard AMT or single-direction, forward-firing silk-dome alternatives present in conventional speaker sets. It appears as a futuristic “super tweeter” unit and shines in its omnidirectional approach, with a design featuring an upward-firing tweeter and 360-degree “dispersion cone with tractrix profile”. Such configuration allows this hi-tweeter to deliver a stunning high-frequency performance reaching up to 60kHz. This figure far exceeds the hearing capacity of humans, which typically does not reach past the best stereo speakers. Its real secret lies in achieving crispness through the leading edges of notes, and allowing users to feel the expansiveness of a song's dynamic nuances.

Fyne Audio has also rolled out a new Vintage Classic Gold SP (Special Production) series. This launch serves to close the gap between the mid-range Vintage Classic Series loudspeakers and the high-end, flagship Vintage Series. The SuperTrax tweeter is a desirable add-on to any of these series, as well as any existing stereo speakers in possession, given the speaker sensitivity ranges to 98dB/W. This sensitivity range provides a +/-3dB control for balancing alongside the main speaker.

Matching the aesthetics of Fyne's existing speaker series, the SuperTrax comes in two color schemes. The Walnut SuperTrax, adorned with gold metalwork that reflects Fyne's Vintage Classic Series style, is available at $4,599.99 per pair or roughly AU$6,649. Alternatively, you can purchase the Gloss Black SuperTrax with silver detail, which complements the F700 series perfectly, at $ 3,999.99 per pair, an approximate conversion of AU$5,699. The SC1 cables come at an additional price of $449.99.

In the pipeline for Fyne Audio is the Autumn 2024 release of the Vintage Classic Gold SP speaker series. Though prices are yet to be confirmed, Fyne assures that it will be proportionate and sit comfortably within the prices of the Vintage Classic and Vintage ranges.

Boosting the Bass? Amplify the Tweeter Too!

Fyne's ground-breaking upward-firing “super tweeter” tech has been a hot topic at High End Munich. Its promise of enriching high notes through omnidirectional sound projection is not just intriguing but also innovative. More so, its potential to be harmonized with any stereo speakers up to 98dB/W is a remarkable engineering achievement.

Magico's founder, Alon Wolf, shared in a recent listening session that “the tweeter should always be at ear-level.” He explained, “20% of what we hear is on-axis, 80% is-off axis. This is how we perceive where we are situated.
Fyne Audio has earned praise and an envious reputation in hi-fi circles. For some, the prospect of an expensive, enhanced tweeter unit might seem an extravagance, but this high-frequency performer is able to sense the auditory perception of both dogs and cats and can indeed extend the human audio experience.

Such frequencies might appear needless on paper, yet audiophiles would argue that with this power-packed performance, this device takes music appreciation to a whole new level –from plain listening to full-on physical sensation. Most audio systems, including our own hi-fi and home theater systems, regularly bolster bass frequencies with the thumping and rumbling of a subwoofer. It is a widely accepted fact that humans also feel sounds through our bodies, not just our ears. This is why we can also ‘feel' higher frequencies and why optimizing top-end sounds could be the next big thing in audio – that is, if you're prepared to invest in it.
