Introduction
When iOS 18 is released, it will bring a significant improvement to the Apple Music app with a new feature for better crossfading. This feature is designed to enhance the transition between songs, taking inspiration from the seamless merging done by DJs. The upcoming update promises a smarter approach to crossfading, allowing for a more tailored experience based on the characteristics of each song.
How to use Smart Crossfade in Apple Music
The Smart Crossfade feature in iOS 18 is an improvement on the existing Crossfade option. To access this feature, navigate to Settings > Music in the Apple Music app. Here, you will find a toggle switch to enable or disable Crossfade, as well as a slider to adjust the duration of crossfades, ranging from 1 second to 12 seconds.
This feature will also be available in Apple Music on macOS 15 Sequoia, labeled as “smart song transitions” in the beta versions. Users can choose Smart transitions using a slider similar to the one in iOS 17 and 18 Crossfade settings.
Smart Crossfade is a highly requested feature by music app users and is likely to improve the overall listening experience. It is designed to seamlessly transition between tracks in playlists, Stations, or queued up music without affecting the gaps between album tracks.
